The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Area (CVM) part of Biomedical Research at Novartis is committed to changing this alarming statistic by discovering transformative medicines to treat these diseases.We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join our Cell Pharmacology team. Here you will advance our understanding of disease biology, contribute to target identification efforts, and work towards the discovery and optimization of new drugs. The work involves collaboration with a host of basic research scientists across multiple disciplines as well as the clinicians who bring our drugs to patients.

About the Role

What you will do:

  • Contribute intellectually to experimental design and data interpretation.
  • Devise, develop and perform assays for drug discovery, including ion channel research and other cell-based/biophysical/biochemical techniques.
  • Support target validation and mechanism-of-action projects, including work with primary cells, human iPSC derived cadiomyocytes, and/or tissues.
  • Conduct data analyses and documentation of experiments.
  • Collaborate effectively while working in a matrixed reporting environment.
  • Employ good laboratory, data recording and data documentation practices.
  • Present results in lab and department meetings.
  • Assist in writing research documents and publications.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior scientists on assays and instruments.

Role Requirements:

  • MS degree in biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, biophysics, biomedical engineering or a related field, and >3 years of relevant laboratory experience, or a BS degree with >5 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with cell culture and demonstrated competence in independently developing/optimizing assays.
  • Flexibility and aptitude for learning, with the ability to quickly grasp new techniques and apply them to your work.
  • Experience in generation, analysis, and presentation of scientific data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work optimally in a matrixed team environment.
  • A record of accomplishments, validated by publications or abstracts, is required, whereas previous industrial experience is preferred but not essential.

Desired skills

  • Experience in mechanism of action projects or high-throughput assays for drug discovery is preferred.
  • Experience with ion channel-related research or iPSC derived cells is a plus, but not required.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: While salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
