Chapter Text
« – Boy was that a scary experience !
Uttered Cate, all while getting out of that horrendous furry black coat with puffy sleeves, and dark grey cheetah pattern.
– You could say that! One star out of ten, would not recommend. Sighed out Sylvee while dropping down on the bed, laying on its edge.
– Okay, nearly there Smoke bomb, it's usually out of five stars but, um sure buddy! Reassured or mocked her friend.
– Well stay alert because it isn't over yet. It's only the beginning, the hardest part comes now. Hannah reminded, checking out the windows and closing the curtains shut instantly.
– I guess you're right. When you look at it we're not even halfway there already, we still need to get Puffy. That's what we did all that for. Not just a stupid, risky, fun car ride. Yay! Sylvee sassed in a fake high pitch, happy tons and gleeful hand gestures.
– You're getting one heck of a coffee cup girl. »
Muttered a desperate – yet caring – Hannah, as she knew from here, they had to get ready, and everything was put on a timer. Everyone at to be on their best behavior.
They had only one hour to get ready, not a single minute over that deadline.
Then, they would walk down, into the Hotel restaurants just as they would begin the last service. They'd make sure to be the very last client, hoping that the story of their long and tiring hours of driving would make the staff feels sympathy and they'd let them eat here on such short notice. After they were still paying customer.
If all went according to plan, the tardiness, number and polite attitude of the trio would make the staff want to go home early, and trust them on their own. Especially girls. Girls were known to chat and take desperately long.
Well check this one out because that's the one time that prejudice would come in handy.
Anyway, it was a check out type of dinner. The kind were you had a buffet and plater and you just picked an entree, a meal, and finally a dessert. As they did not care for choices, so they settled for the left over.
And once you were done, you'd just put your platter on a big shelf, which a server would then roll over to the kitchen to get everything cleaned up.
And all that meant : no waiter, no witness, no problems.
Then, after they had their dinner and they knew the staff was either out or dedicated to cleaning up and packing up the kitchen, they'd leave for their room. Or so it seemed. Instead, they get, as obliged, by the reception desk, only to find it empty.
That meant they were free to go behind the desk and use the employee's back exit with no problems. As for the cameras? Those had been taken care of during dinner.
The Hotel bordered a forest, just like did the whole town. They'd walk in there, and after hitting the a one point five kilometers radius, they'd stop and get changed.
From Hannah's "purse" would come out weapons, and every much needed materials to make this work. Such as night vision gogoles, or a mines radar.
The rest of their stuff, they'd hid in the trunk of a big and mighty, old oak tree.
As previously said, the perimeters around the prison was a dangerous one : mines, wires, constant surveillance... They'd never expect anyone to actually try and get there by foot.
But the thing is, those watchers were still humans, and at first there were people seriously and heavily guarding the forest borders from all side of the prison. But with time they grew tired. They'd never get anyone, not even a deer in hindsight.
How come? Well it was all thanks to all the security previously put in place to ensure no one would even get close to the prison with sick intentions, such as breaking out a criminal for instance.
Instead, they'd cast a glance once or twice just to be sure now.
But unless a suspicious activity was detected within the prison walls, they had nothing much to do. The only reason they were even still there was because of "eventuality" and to show the people their president did care for their safety, right! Look at those devoted men, slumping down on their chair, high on coffee and badly shaven. What heroes they are must you say...
Well, that's the kind of heroes that's easy to take on compared to some, but not the point.
Right they had to focus on walking ever so quietly to the prison border. It would take a while as the nearer they'd get, the worse it would get.
Why? For obviously human footstep was quite recognizable. Therefore they had to disguise it as some kind of animals. Their best option was to go for a herp of deers, as it was both the most logical option and the easiest to do – Though they did look ridiculous walking that stance –.
After some effort, and never ending shame, they had made it to spot number B. A two century old willow tree with a mossy rock sat down right beside it.
« – Alright now it gets real. Hannah muttered to herself, cheering herself up.
Who would have thought breaking your best friend of the most secured state prison would be so nerve wracking, uh.
She then walked to one mossy rock, crouching down to it's level. She raised her hands and thorny vines came to lift the rock up in the air.
Then from her purse she got the bomb they got handmade from some slum gifted kid. She then planted the device inside a small hole she had dug with her index finger on the ground.
Following suit, she clicked on the middle of it, watching as it shone a very faint white light, signaling it was on and ready. She clicked twice and now the bomb was glowing blue.
They had forty twenty five seconds to get the f*ck away.
Yet she, but, calmly looked up at her accomplices, nodding her head as she made her vine put the rock back down where it belonged.
From there everyone was to get three feet away and wait for the magic to take place.
Cate held her hand up, each fingers separated in a distinctly show cased maner. She had starting counting the moment it started shining blue colors, and was excited to just see it go "kaboom".
Five, four, three, two, one...
Sure enough a small earthquake could be felt under their feet – which still managed to make Sylvee tumble down the ground though –, as well as some smoke pouring from were the rock once was, now entirely obliterated.
The whole crew walked to the place of the explosion and looked down at the damage : a 7 meters deep and one and a half meter wide hole now appearing underground. Satisfied with the results, each went and grabbed a gasmask for the next step to come.
Now for one of the last parts, Hannah concentrated to make armless, but thick vines erupt from the ground to create a ladder. Putting her foot on the first bar, she added pressure checking how solid it were.
« – Yep, it's safe girls. » She said her foot coming back on land.
Sylvee nodded, going in first. For obvious reasons it was Safer Hannah go down last, just in case she had to perform a last minute save on one of her friends.
But turned she wouldn't have too as Sylvee safely reached the bottom of the pit.
Then came Cate, all giddy about it.
« – Wow chill Cate! We're all getting there you know. » Hannah said amused by her demeanor.
The brunet just smiled widely, nodding and slowly, yet happily, going down.
With one last breath of anticipation, Hannah went down last.
Igniting her hand for light, Cate waited for the other approval.
The second she received the nod of confirmation, she put both hand on the wall facing east, toward the prison. She focused, before all of a sudden her hand were brazen, shining red like hot tempered glass. It might just have been with the way it was entirely covered by thick, dripping lava.
Then she pushed both of hands hard against the wall shooting lava through, and efficiently destroying the earthly barrier before them and the prison in one long tunnel.
That's right, if they couldn't get through the air or through land then they were going under.
Hannah stepped by Cate at the tunnel entrance and made holes in the walls. She reached for her bag again and got a handful of charcoal she threw in the air, inside the tunnels. All at once vines grabbed one piece of coal, retrieving steadily to one of the hole they came from.
Afterwards Hannah and Sylvee switch places, Cate being in front of Sylvee and Hannah being the last behind.
They looked at each other once to make sure the other would be ready and let the show begin.
Once again Cate's hand transformed into that melted glass akin structure, radiating heat. Then Sylvee blew smoke over hand. This resulted in both their magic combinated creating a strong gush of fire to go through the tunnel.
It went just the way a flame thrower would. The flame died in second, but still had just the time to light up every charcoal, englightening the whole tunnel.
It was honestly easy as can be!
« – This seems way too easy. Stated Hannah maliciously.
– I know right... Two whole years for this. It's all because of that kid you find in that crockpot. Cate grumbled.
– That sucked like crazy, but eh, now it's done. Girl trip 2024. Sylvee yelled snapping a selfie of her mates without warning them.
This earned her being shoved around and being yelled at. But she did not for it was nothing but friendly bickering.
– Well we must do what must be done. Hannah agreed, faking a sigh.
– Now let's go get Puffy, the sooner we get her the sooner I can kiss those worms goodbye. » She added irritably.
It was sort of ironic for a nature bender to have a fear of insects and anything dirty enough, but it is what it is. It's kinda like that one tinker bell fairy you know? I guess that's why she's always been her favorite growing up.
Eh, who thought she ended being evil Rosetta. But, ugh, anyway.
And so they moved past it and went forward in life. Or in a less allegoric way, to the end of the tunnel Cate had made.
Now you would wonder how come the most heavily guarded prison in the country wasn't feeling that something was happening right under them?
Why easy! The whole building is built upon a thick concrete plater, and just in case for extra safety a measure, a two meter tall titanium layer.
And since every prisoner was under surveillance twenty-four seven, and stripped of their power, they deemed it impossible for anyone to get out through underground tunnels.
Heck, the thirties called and they want their mannerisms back!
No but really, the prison was already costy as it was and president Schlatt deemed it wasn't even necessary to buy a seismograph. Plus it also meant having to pay people monthly to observe, well, nothing. So he just left that job to the coast guard instead.
But they were way too far already for his cheap mechanism to pick any of their questionable activity.
Not to mention the fact the man must be asleep as not only was there never seismic activity here, but even then no one really dares to venture the wood past closing time anyway. They weren't saying when they said there really was nothing to observe.
But back to them.
Now another great question would be, when would they know where to stop?
Why, the answer is quite simple. Almost laughable one would dare to say. But, long answer short, Hannah had strapped to her hips a small electronic decameter. And once that decameter reached 73.2 meters then it would beep right in her ear through an earbud. And that ever so slightly annoying noise would make the group know where and when they had to stop.
See, easy as can be. You can see why some people were... Displeased with how long this took to happen.
But for now they just kept on walking. Upon counting every step, Sylvee would say they're about 54 meters in, only 19 more to go. Truly easy.
« – Geez girl, you know you're allowed to breath right? They won't hear that you know. Hannah joked to a wary looking Cate.
– You don't know! » She uttered rapidly.
« – Maybe they do! She anxiously raised his voice.
– And what if I breath wrong and everything collapse on us! » She concluded gripping her hair in stress, though that motion was quickly ended by two gloved hands gripping her wrists.
« – Ever heard of the butterfly effect? I could explain it to you if you wish, but that would be quite a paradox! Hannah spoke, a bit more serious now.
– Okay, wow, seriously, Cate, deep breath. I mean come on you already melted the earth, you really think they couldn't hear that but they can hear you breath? Be reasonable. » Tried reassuring Hannah upon seeing Cate was not being responsive to her calm attempt at soothing her.
« – It's okay, we've probably only got, like, one minute left at best, hang in there buddy. » Sylvee chimed in, ending the conversation, throwing a reassuring arm around her friend's frame.
And so she did, over-exaggerated deep breath in, for equally over-exaggerated deep breath out. This ordeal made his friend laugh, Hannah shook her head in disbelief; a hand pinching his nose in exasperation.
Until everything stopped dead.
« – Were here Girls. » Hannah announced with a proud, yet, smug grin on her face.
